Questions and answers

Short answers. If yours isn’t here, write to support@twinhop.com.

Do I need my old iPhone?

To move data, yes, or a backup of it made with TwinHop on this computer. The data comes from the backup, and the backup comes from the old phone. If the old phone is gone, “Reinstall apps from purchases” brings back the apps themselves, without their data.

Will my new iPhone be erased?

A full move sets the new iPhone to match the backup: anything on it that isn’t in the backup will be gone, and TwinHop warns you before you click.

Adding selected apps to a phone that’s already set up is not a full move, but it also uses a restore. After any restore, iOS may remove photos and messages that aren’t in iCloud, so TwinHop backs up that phone first. With “Photos and videos” ticked, the camera roll is replaced by the one from the backup.

Do I need to sign in to my Apple Account?

Not to move data. Signing in lets TwinHop install your apps over the cable from your purchases before the data goes in. It must be the account the apps were downloaded with. Your password goes only to Apple and is never sent to us.

What doesn’t move?

Passwords from the Keychain, call history, music and books from Apple or synced from a computer, and TestFlight, enterprise or developer builds. Details are in What moves.

How long does a move take?

The first backup usually takes 10 to 40 minutes, restoring it 40 to 90 minutes. Most of the time goes to photos and videos. You can step away: TwinHop tells you when it needs you.

What if the cable disconnects in the middle?

The backup picks up where it stopped, in the same folder.

Does it work on Windows?

Yes, on Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit, with the Apple Devices app (or iTunes) installed. On Windows 7 and 8, Apple Account sign-in doesn’t work, so apps can’t be installed from purchases; backup and data transfer still work there.

Which iPhones are supported?

iPhones with iOS 17 to iOS 27. Connect each phone with a cable that carries data, directly, without adapters.

Does it move WhatsApp from Android?

No. TwinHop moves from iPhone to iPhone only.

When do I pay: before or after the backup?

Backing up needs no key. You need the $19.99 key to move data or install apps onto the new iPhone. You can buy it at any point.

How many computers and phones does a key cover?

Three computers, Mac and Windows in any mix, and up to five iPhones. Changing computers? Free the slot in Settings → License → “Unlink this computer”. If the old computer is gone, write to us and we’ll unlink it.

Does my new iPhone use up a license?

The iPhone you move to takes one of the 5 iPhone places on your key. Backing up the old phone needs no key and doesn’t take a place. That leaves 4 for your family. Moving the same phone again doesn’t count twice.

Do repair shops need a different license?

Yes. The personal license covers your own iPhones and your family’s. Servicing other people’s phones for payment needs a Repair shop license: $149 for one year, with no automatic renewal. It allows commercial use and covers 3 computers, Mac and Windows in any mix, with no limit on iPhones. It adds the Next client button, which signs out of the customer’s Apple Account and removes their backups and apps from the computer, and a client report: which apps came back, which didn’t and why. Repair shop Plus, $399 for one year, has no limit on computers and comes with priority support.

Is a yearly key a subscription?

No. A subscription charges your card again until you stop it. A TwinHop key is a single payment that ends on its own after a year. Your backups stay on your computer as ordinary files, and backing up a phone keeps working without a key. If you move again next year, buy a new key then.

Can I get a refund?

Yes, within 14 days of purchase, if you haven’t yet used your key to move data or install apps to an iPhone. Write to support@twinhop.com from the email the key was sent to. If you have already started and something went wrong, write to us anyway and tell us what happened: we look at each case. The details are in the Refund Policy.

What happens when the year is over?

Moving data and installing apps stop until you enter a new key. Backing up a phone keeps working without one. Your backups stay where they are: they are ordinary files in the folder you chose, and they remain yours. There is no subscription and nothing is charged automatically: for another year, you buy a new key.

Why do I have to turn off Find My on the new iPhone?

iOS refuses to restore a backup while Find My is on, so a full move or adding apps with their data can’t finish. If Stolen Device Protection is on, turn it off first (Settings → Face ID & Passcode), then Find My (Settings → [your name] → Find My → Find My iPhone). Turn both back on after the move. Reinstalling apps from purchases doesn’t need this: the phone isn’t restored.

The backup is much smaller than my phone. Is something missing?

No, that is normal. A backup doesn’t contain the apps themselves (they are installed again from your purchases), iOS, caches, music and books from Apple, or photos kept only in iCloud. The data inside apps, the photos on the phone, messages and settings are in it.

After the move, apps ask me to sign in again. Did the data move?

Yes. Saved passwords and sign-ins live in the Keychain, which Apple keeps out of unencrypted backups. Sign in once: the data inside the app is already there. Don’t restore again because of this: a second restore erases the phone again.

Will my banking apps work right away?

Their data moves, but most banks ask you to sign in or activate the app again on a new phone. In some countries the bank sends a new activation code by post. That’s the bank’s security check, and TwinHop can’t skip it. Keep your old phone until your banking and authenticator apps work on the new one.

TwinHop: move to a new iPhone with your apps and their data
